As the Classic Horror Campaign prepares to launch the UKs newest and most exciting horror event The Frighten Brighton Classic Horror Film Festival taking place this summer we thought we’d bring you some interesting factoids about the event and its organisers!

  1. After days of organisers Cyberschizoid and Scare Sarah wracking their brains trying to think of the perfect name for their Brighton-based horror events and screenings the name Frighten Brighton was eventually thought up by musical theatre director Mr Niall Bailey – in a cosy Brighton seaside pub of course!!
  2. The very first Frighten Brighton event was actually held at the Brighton Komedia in August 2011 as part of the Classic Horror Campaign’s UK tour. It consisted of the Vincent Price ’50s classic House on Haunted Hill (1959) followed by the much-loved Amicus  film Asylum (1972) and was a huge success!
  3. Frighten Brighton organiser and horror hostess Scare Sarah (aka Sarah James) also runs her own business Brighton Crock, a collection of hand drawn illustrations on plates and other crockery. Each item is unique and the illustrations are inspired by living in Brighton and Sarah’s love of all things odd and pretty as well as her passion for classic horror films!
  4. How many degrees of separation? Frighten Brighton organiser Cyberschizoid (aka Richard Gladman) was once interviewed for BBC Television’s Points of View show about the horror campaign at Brighton’s Duke of York’s cinema – The Duke of York’s is part of the Picture House cinema chain – which is now building three movie screens at the Brighton Komedia – which is the venue for this year’s Frighten Brighton Classic Horror Film Festival – which is co-hosted by Cyberschizoid!
  5. Frighten Brighton’s special guest is scream queen and Horror Channel presenter Emily Booth. Emily has been a supporter of the Classic Horror Campaign and Frighten Brighton right from the start. She loves horror films old and new, her great-grandad built one of the very first cinemas in England (in Cornwall) and she once sang on the Channel Four TV show Eurotrash!
